Hands reaching towards each other

About Can We Meet Therapy

Can We Meet is dedicated to providing affirming, effective, and compassionate mental health services to individuals, couples, families, and organizations. We use evidence-based, trauma-informed, and collaborative therapeutic approaches to support folx from all diverse backgrounds. Our goal is for clients to feel safe, heard, and supported as they work toward the goals they set for themselves.

In therapy, you can expect a personalized approach tailored to your unique needs and experiences. Our clinicians are trained in Integrative Systemic Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and draw from attachment-based approaches.

Beyond psychotherapy, we partner with local organizations to help clients access Gender-Affirming Care. We recognize how critical access to life-saving and necessary health resources can be, and we are committed to supporting you every step of the way. We also honor the role animals can play in mental health and are trained to complete Emotional Support Animal (ESA) letters for clients who meet criteria for this service.

Meet Kelsie Johnson

Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (she/her/hers)

Having been in the field of mental health for the past 15 years, I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of therapeutic settings including Partial Hospitalization Programming, Intensive Outpatient Programming, juvenile detention centers, Women and Family Shelters, schools, and group therapy practice. I have had the honor to meet with individuals, couples, and families as they seek to expand their support system, establish new patterns of communicating, and strengthen their resources and relationships.

I received my masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northwestern University where I was trained in Integrative Systemic Therapy. My therapy practice embodies relational and trauma informed care that allows me to tailor my approach to the goals and needs of each client system. I mainly utilize attachment theory, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Self-Compassion and Mindfulness Strategies, and Internal Family Systems.

Whether engaging with an individual or a larger relational unit—be it a family, friends, siblings, or romantic partnerships—my lens is always focused on the multitude of systems that profoundly shape lives. In therapy, this may look like spending time exploring the family you grew up with, your cultural background, societal influences, and life experiences that influence the way we view ourselves, others, and the world.

  • I am an AAMFT Approved Supervisor providing supervision and consultation to graduate students, post-graduate students, and newly licensed therapists. I have experience supervising in a partial hospitalization program, intensive outpatient program, at the graduate level, and in a private practice. I utilize a systemic and humanistic approach to supervision while focusing on the development of fundamental therapeutic skills.

Please reach out at welcome@canwemeet.net if you are interested in supervision or consultation.

  • Our approach to individual therapy is a collaborative process where we meet one-on-one to explore, unpack, and develop coping strategies that align with your personal goals for therapy. We understand that each person’s experience is unique, and we work to explore your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and personal challenges in a safe, confidential environment. Using various evidence-based techniques, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), we help clients identify unhelpful patterns and develop healthier coping strategies for concerns like anxiety, depression, or trauma. The ultimate goal is to foster self-awareness and provide the tools needed for long-term emotional resilience and personal growth.

  • We provide child and adolescent individual therapy using age-appropriate approaches tailored to each developmental stage, such as play therapy for younger children and experiential therapy for teens. We work with children and adolescents to help them process emotions and navigate developmental challenges in a supportive, safe environment. This work often includes collaboration with parents, where we offer guidance and strategies to help support their child’s progress at home. By addressing concerns such as behavioral outbursts, social anxiety, or academic stress early on, we help young folx foster strong relationships and develop healthy coping strategies.

    52 minute session — $190*

  • Our approach to  family therapy focuses on the family as a whole rather than on any one individual, viewing the household as a dynamic system where each member’s actions impact the entire unit. We work with families to improve communication, identify repetitive patterns of conflict, and establish healthier ways of relating to one another. Together, we address deep-seated tensions or shared trauma and navigate major life transitions such as divorce, grief, or the challenges of blending families, with the goal of fostering greater understanding, connection, and resilience within the family system.

    52 minute session — $165*

  • We provide couples therapy as a structured, supportive space where partners can identify and shift negative interaction patterns that lead to disconnection and conflict. We work to help each partner express their needs more clearly and rebuild emotional intimacy. Whether couples are working through a specific crisis such as infidelity or looking to strengthen communication, the process focuses on deepening connection, strengthening the relationship, and creating a shared vision for the future.

At CWM, we believe the word couples doesn’t fully capture the diversity of relationships that exist in the world. We work with polycules, non-monogamous partners, friends, coworkers, and any relational dynamic that could benefit from additional support. Our approach honors the unique structure and needs of each relationship, creating space for healthier communication, understanding, and connection.
